Sony President Shuhei Yoshida stated that a successor to the Playstation Vita is highly unlikely due to the current handheld market climate. With the rise of smartphone gaming the Vita has been a huge disappointment to Sony sales wise. The Vita does however have a small dedicated fan base that supports it well. Vita has a high attachment rate, people who own one buy games for it. Here is the direct quotes from Yoshida on the matter from IGN.
“That’s a tough question. People have mobile phones and it’s so easy to play games on smartphones. And many games on smartphones are free, or free to start,” Yoshida said when asked about the possibility of Vita 2 during a Q&A at EGX 2015.
“I myself am a huge fan of PlayStation Vita and we worked really hard on designing every aspect,” he continued. “Touch-based games are fun – there are many games with really good design. But having sticks and buttons make things totally different.
